Box Score MADISON (NJ) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team did not trail past the opening basket in a 72-60 victory at FDU-Florham in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game on Wednesday.
The Aggies improved to 13-3 overall and they are 4-1 in the conference. The Devils dropped to 4-12 with a 2-3 MAC Freedom mark. DelVal is scheduled to battle for sole possession of first place at home versus DeSales University (12-4, 4-1) on Saturday, January 23 (3:00 p.m.).
The Devils made the first basket of the contest before the Aggies went on a 16-7 run to lead 16-9 with 11:39 left in the half. Five players scored in the stretch, paced by senior
Chris Moran's seven points. FDU-Florham responded with seven of the next nine to cut the deficit to two (18-16) with 8:41 on the clock. DelVal recovered to orchestrate a 13-4 surge to make the score 31-20 with 5:15 to go. Seniors
Barry Brockington and
Zach Sly tallied six and five points apiece and freshman
Alex Matsinye made a jumper. Delaware Valley held a 38-29 advantage at the intermission.
The Aggies remained in control for the early portion of the second half. The Devils got within eight (47-39) with 15:34 left. DelVal then went on an 11-2 run for a 17-point cushion (58-41) with 11:22 to go. Juniors
Tyliek Kimbrough and
Tyrea Williams had five and four points respectively and Brockington added a pair of free throws. FDU-Florham's 12-5 spurt got it within 10 (63-53) and the clock was at 6:42. Five players scored in the run. However, Delaware Valley put the game away with nine of the next 11 points.
The Aggies had the advantage on the glass by a 44-35 margin. Moran finished with a game-high 19 points followed by Brockington (16), Kimbrough (13) and Sly (11). Williams grabbed nine rebounds and Kimbrough totaled eight. Moran and Sly brought down six boards apiece. Kimbrough also dished six assists while Sly added four steals.
Donte Ali led the Devils with 17 points and nine rebounds. Steve Herdman contributed with 11 points and Derek Leohner had nine. Veon Lassiter and Jayson Hughes chipped in eight and seven points respectively.
