Box Score ANNVILLE (PA) – Delaware Valley College saw its 2014-15 season come to an end as the seventh-seeded Aggies dropped a 71-52 decision at No. 2 Lebanon Valley College in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championships.
Delaware Valley finished the campaign with a 13-14 overall record and appearances in the Freedom Conference and ECAC postseason for the second consecutive year. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 19-9 and advanced to the semifinals where they will meet Washington & Jefferson College at top-seeded and weekend host Albright College.
The Aggies led for most of the first half, including by as many as 10 on two occasions. The first was with 5:39 remaining after a
Brittany Wood 3-pointer made it 26-16. Lebanon Valley hit a 3-pointer before
Eireann Anastasi was fouled while shooting a trey and she hit all three free throws for a 29-19 lead with 4:52 to go.
Delaware Valley was still up by seven when the Flying Dutchmen's Bridget Rothert hit a shot from 10 feet beyond the arc before the buzzer to make it a 35-31 game at the break. The Aggies shot 12-for-28 (42.9%) from the field in those opening 20 minutes.
However, the second half was all Lebanon Valley as it outscored Delaware Valley, 40-17. The Flying Dutchmen scored the first 10 points of the stanza and held the Aggies off the scoreboard for the first 6:22.
Delaware Valley was able to tie it back up at 42-42 after an Anastasi trey with 12:01 remaining. However, Lebanon Valley went on a 19-4 run and cruised the rest of the way. The squad shot nearly 53 percent from 3-point land for the game and held a 47-24 advantage on the boards.
For the Aggies, it was the final game for five seniors, including all-Freedom honoree
Brenna Coll. Coll notched 19 points before following out with less than nine minutes to go and, in the process, moved up two spots to fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,424 points. One of those that she passed was her head coach,
Laura Hogan (nee Rotz) who netted 1,413 points in her career. Coll also finished fourth all-time in rebounds (773), fifth in blocks (74) and sixth in assists (303).
Anastasi added 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds while Wood, a senior had eight points, three rebounds and three steals.
Peyton Carper led a balanced Lebanon Valley attack with 14 points while Rothert had 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the win.
