DelVal Women Fall At Juniata, 53-45

Box Score HUNTINGDON (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team ended the first semester with a 53-45, non-conference setback at Juniata College on Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 3-9 overall and they are now off until Sunday, January 3 when they host Dickinson College. Juniata improved its mark to 3-5.

The low-scoring affair saw both teams struggle to find its shooting accuracy. DelVal was 16-for-63 (25.4%) from the field, including a 4-for-32 effort (12.5%) from 3-point land. The Eagles managed just five treys on 21 attempts (23.8%) and were 19-for-65 (29.2%) overall from the field.

The Aggies were down 14-6 late in the first quarter when four different players hit the scoring column to tie things up. They added the first basket of the second quarter before Juniata matched it. DelVal then scored six straight on an Eireann Anastasi layup, a Brianna Rivello free throw and a Kelsey Kilpatrick 3-pointer for its first lead of the game. The Aggies eventually took a 27-25 advantage into the break.

Sam Foy hit a jumper just 11 seconds into the second half for a four-point lead. However, Juniata responded with a 14-0 run, including five from Dani Atkinson, to regain the lead at 41-31.

Foy hit a 3-pointer at the third quarter buzzer and it ignited an 8-0 DelVal run, which also included an Anastasi layup and Kilpatrick bomb, to get the team back in the game. An Eagles' basket was followed by an Anastasi trey for a one-point game. After Juniata sank a free throw, Anastasi got inside for a layup to tie the game up at 44-44 with 6:31 remaining.

However, it was all Eagles down the stretch, beginning with a Katy Leamer 3-pointer. That began a 9-1 run that gave the home team the victory.

Anastasi finished with 11 points while Kilpatrick added 10. Foy notched nine points and six rebounds while Danielle Skedzielewski had six points and seven boards. Rivello, a freshman returning to her home area, had five points, a game-high 11 rebounds and four assists in the loss.

Leamer came off the bench to pace Juniata with 12 points. Maria Photiades had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
