Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University began a run of four home matches in its last five contests of the season with a 3-1, non-conference setback to New Jersey City University. Set scores were 21-25, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-17.
The Gothic Knights improved to 11-14 overall while the Aggies fell to 1-16.
DelVal trailed 15-9 in the first set when it ran off eight straight points on the serve of
Kayla Bracken to take a 17-15 lead. The set was then tied at 21-21 when the Aggies scored the final four points, including an ace by
Taylor Klecan, to take the set.
New Jersey City came back to take a 6-1 advantage to start the second set and DelVal never got closer than three points as the Gothic Knights tied the contest up. New Jersey City had an early lead again in the third but
Lilly Gilbert had four aces as part of 6-0 Aggie run for a 9-8 lead. The Gothic Knights produced the next three points and it was nip and tuck for a while before the visitors pulled away to take the set and a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth, the teams went back and forth with Klecan notching a kill to give DelVal a 15-14 lead. However, New Jersey City scored eight consecutive points on Valerie Ballestas' for a 22-15 lead and the Gothic Knights eventually took the set and the match.
Shege Haxhaj paced New Jersey City with 11 kills and three blocks while Amber O'Donnell added six kills and three of her team's 17 aces. Georgina Rayo notched 13 digs while Rachel McIntyre finished with five kills, four aces, four digs and 28 assists.
For the Aggies, Klecan led the way with 12 kills and eight digs. Bracken added eight kills and seven digs while Courtney Campbell had six kills. Gilbert finished with four aces and four digs.
Nicole Daigneault handed out 23 assists in the loss.
DelVal will host a tri-match on Saturday, October 24 as the Aggies will meet William Paterson University at 11:00 a.m. and Rosemont College at 3:00 p.m. The two visitors will play each other in the middle match at 1:00 p.m.
