Box Score READING (PA) – Penn State Berks scored the go-ahead goal less than seven minutes into the second half and made it stand for a 3-2, non-conference victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.
The win was the first of the year for the Lions as they improved to 1-8-1. The Aggies fell to 2-7-2 and will now enter Freedom Conference play when they travel to Manhattanville College on Saturday.
Penn State Berks took an early 2-0 lead as it struck twice in the first 15:48 of the contest. Michael Peguero connected in the fourth minute off a feed from T.J. Yurkovic, and then Yurkovic found the back of the net off a rebound.
Delaware Valley tied it up with two tallies in a span of 1 minute, 44 seconds late in the stanza. With 5:06 to go,
Tim Szram took a feed from
Justin Mannato and deposited his first goal of the season. Then it was Mannato's turn as he blasted a drive into the top of the netting from 20 yards out to even the contest. It was Mannato's team-best fourth goal of the year.
Yurkovic broke the tie early in the second half as he received a through ball from Joe Budnovitch and connected on what turned out to be the game-winning tally. The Aggies had eight of their 17 shots in the second half, but could not put the tying goal in the net.
Austin Brotman had eight saves for Delaware Valley while Kyle Baker had the same total for Penn State Berks.
