AGGIE MEN FALL IN TOURNAMENT TITLE GAME AT WIDENER

Box Score CHESTER (PA) – Widener University shot 54.9 percent from the field as the host Pride captured their Tip-Off for Autism Awareness championship with a 93-86 victory over Delaware Valley College in the title contest.

It was a return to his alma mater for reigning Freedom Conference Coach of the Year Casey Stitzel and he and his Aggies got out to a 13-point lead, 23-10, midway through the first half. Six different players scored in the hot start. The Pride clawed their way back and finished the half by scoring 28 of the final 40 points to take a 38-35 lead into the break.

Delaware Valley junior swingman Jay Donovan opened the second stanza with one of his three treys on the day to tie the game at 38-38. However, Widener refused to relinquish the momentum as it went on a 14-4 run, highlighted by five points from Rob McPherson, to go up 52-42 less than five minutes into the half.

Delaware Valley managed to cut the lead in half after a Chris Moran layup and a three off the bench from Zach Sibel. The Aggies kept it close from there and pulled to within three of the Pride, 65-62, after a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Zach Sly with 8:10 left on the clock.

However, the three-point margin was the closest Delaware Valley would see as Widener used a 13-5 run to pull out to an 87-74 lead with less than two minutes to play in regulation. The Aggies got to within six after a Nick Sullivan 3-pointer but they didn't have enough left in the tank to complete the comeback.

Widener was 28-for-51 from the field, including a 16-for-28 (57.1%) effort in the second half. The two teams combined to shoot 91 free throws (49 for Widener, 42 for Delaware Valley) as 60 fouls were called and 10 players either fouled out or had four fouls in the game.

Andrew Radomicki was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as he led the Pride with 20 points to go along with five assists, five rebounds and two steals. McPherson added 19 points.

Francis Arnold earned a spot on the all-tournament team thanks to 17 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals in the title game and 28 points in Friday night's double-overtime thriller over Rowan. Chris Moran was right behind with 16 points and a game-high 8 rebounds. Donovan connected on three of five treys and ended with 13 points.
