DELVAL WOMEN FALL TO 2013 NCAA QUALIFIER BARUCH IN SEASON OPENER

Box Score ANNVILLE (PA) – A young Delaware Valley College women's basketball team fought hard but dropped a 64-58 decision to 2013 NCAA playoff qualifier Baruch College in the opening round of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College.

The Aggies will meet Neumann University in Saturday's consolation game (1:00 p.m.) as the Knights dropped an 87-47 contest to the host school.

Delaware Valley's 2013-14 roster consists of no seniors, six juniors, four sophomores and three freshmen. In the season opener, the squad jumped out to a 14-13 lead midway through the opening half before the Bearcats went on an 11-0 run for a 10-point advantage. The Aggies answered with eight of the next 11 to trail by just five, 27-22, at the break.

Baruch scored the first six points of the second stanza to go up 11, but Delaware Valley pulled to within five, 38-33 after Brittany Wood hit one of two free throws with 13:45 remaining. The Bearcats followed with 13 straight points over the next three minutes to build their biggest lead of the game at 18 points.

The Aggies then hit a trio of 3-pointers for the next nine points as Kelsey Kilpatrick came off the bench to drill back-to-back treys while Eireann Anastasi followed with a bomb with 6:35 to go to make it 51-42. However, Delaware Valley could not get closer than seven points until the final seconds.

Baruch had three players notch double-doubles as it held a 60-35 advantage on the boards, including 21 offensive rebounds. Sheridan Taylor had a game-high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Alicea Ulmer posted 18 points and a game-best 14 boards while Francess Henry added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Anastasi, the 2013 Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year, led the Aggies with 17 points. Kilpatrick drained five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. Wood and Shannon Barlow had nine points apiece and the two also combined for 17 rebounds.
