Box Score WILKES-BARRE (PA) –
Brenna Coll scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Delaware Valley College to a 63-53 victory over host Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game.
Saturday marked the second half of conference play and the Aggies split the season series with the Lady Colonels (10-8, 2-6) as they improved to 8-11 overall and 2-6 in the Freedom.
Delaware Valley never trailed in the contest and Coll was a big reason why. The sophomore notched her third double-double of the season and it also marked the third time – all against conference foes – that she had 16 or more rebounds in a game.
The Aggies were up three, 18-15, when they went on a 13-5 run to extend the advantage to 12 with 3:24 remaining in the opening half. Coll had seven of the 13 points, including the last five of the spurt.
Wilkes ended the first half with four straight points and added six more to start the second stanza, to trail by just two, 31-29. Delaware Valley responded with nine points in a row, six by Coll, to bump the lead back to 11.
Later in the half, a layup by the Lady Colonels' Cara Basile capped a 6-0 run and made it a 46-42 game with 10:56 remaining. It was a five-point game two minutes later when buckets by
Eireann Anastasi,
Emily Soper and
Shannon Barlow gave Delaware Valley a 59-48 lead and Wilkes never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
Soper was a rebound shy of her own double-double as she recorded 14 points and nine boards before fouling out. In the process, the senior upped moved past both Rachel Joyce (1,253 points from 2003 to 2007) and Bridget Golden (1,257 points from 2001 to 2005) and into eighth place on the Aggie all-time list with 1,259 points. Barlow hit double digits with 11 points while
Agatha Drozd added seven points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Elena Stambone scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady Colonels. Chelsea Brown had 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks in the loss.
