EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – Michael Turner's goal with 4:10 remaining was the lone tally of the contest as host Wilkes University downed Delaware Valley College in the Freedom Conference opener for both squads.
The win improved the Colonels to 5-4 overall. The Aggies had their five-game unbeaten streak snapped as they dropped to 5-2-1.
The evenly-played match-up appeared headed to overtime which would not have been something new for Delaware Valley as four of its first seven contests went into extra time. However, Wilkes had a corner kick opportunity late in the contest and Eddie Metzger's crossing pass was headed by Turner into the lower right corner of the net. Neither team had a shot the rest of the way as the Colonels came away with the win.
The Aggies held advantages of 18-16 in shots and 11-5 in corners. Chase Clements recorded nine saves for Delaware Valley while Dave Marr had seven stops and the shutout for Wilkes.
