DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College freshman goalkeeper
Chase Clement stopped 10 shots and also picked up an assist as the Aggies notched a 2-1 home victory over a William Paterson University squad that was ranked 22nd in Division III earlier in the season.
Delaware Valley improved to 2-1 season while the Pioneers dropped their third straight game and fell to 2-3.
The Aggies were outshot 23-5 in the game, but they made the most of their opportunities. Four of the shots came in the first half, including one with 15:59 remaining when
Tyler Yankovich took a long boot from Clement, turned and fired a bullet inside the bottom left corner for a 1-0 lead. It was Yankovich's third goal of the season.
It stayed that way for the next 53-plus minutes despite constant pressure from William Parterson. Then, Delaware Valley came down the field and
Dax Alvarez slid a pass through to
Steve Mannato. Mannato then put the ball past Pioneer goalkeeper Santiago Mesa for a two-goal advantage. It was the team's lone shot of the second stanza
William Paterson made things interesting with 16:03 to go as West Ostrzycki headed in a cross from Andrew Tauriello for a 2-1 contest. The Pioneers kept the heat on and finished the second half with 16 shots and eight corners (14 for the game), but Clement would not permit the tying goal and Delaware Valley came away with the big victory. Seven of Clement's saves came in the second half.
