DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Senior forward
Tyler Yankovich scored a pair of goals as Delaware Valley College kicked off its 2012 season with a 2-1, home triumph over non-conference foe Lancaster Bible College.
Yankovich, who led the team with seven goals and 15 points last season, needed just 18:48 to find the net this year.
Justin Mannato sent a pass through to Yankovich and he beat Crusader goalkeeper Stefan Smith.
Lancaster Bible tied it up with 5:34 remaining in the opening half as it was awarded a free kick just outside the box and Dwight Shelly connected for the tally.
However, Yankovich scored what proved to be the game-winner six minutes into the second stanza as he got loose on a breakaway after a Crusader miscue.
The teams had 10 shots apiece and combined for just three corners. Freshman
Chase Clement stopped five shots, en route to his first collegiate win. Smith finished with three saves for Lancaster Bible.
