BRYN ATHYN (PA) –
Tyler Yankovich tied the Delaware Valley College all-time record for goals and the Aggies assured themselves of their first non-losing season since 1998 with Tuesday's 4-1 triumph over host Bryn Athyn College.
Delaware Valley, under second-year head coach
Tom Drummond, improved to 8-7-1 overall with one game remaining, a Freedom Conference match-up at Eastern University on Saturday. It will mark the first time the team is .500 or better since the '98 squad went 10-7-1.
Yankovich, a senior, scored the first two goals of the game to up his career total to 26 and tie former teammate Tom Antonucci's mark. Yankovich also moved into second place on the all-time scoring list with 60 points. He trails only Antonucci, who compiled 64 points over his two years in an Aggie uniform (2009-10).
Yankovich's first tally came just three minutes and 35 seconds in the contest and it was the lone goal of the opening half. He then followed early in the second stanza for his 11th goal of the year. Bryn Athyn (1-3) made it a one-goal contest with 32:10 remaining as Joshua Cook found the net. However, the Aggies got an insurance goal from
Justin Mannato with 18:54 remaining and
Peter Tantillo ended the scoring with his first goal off a Yankovich assist with 2:30 left on the clock.
Delaware Valley held advantages of 32-14 in shots and 11-2 in corners.
Chase Clement stopped four shots in the win.
