DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Lisa Barenzano and Helena Riede combined for 26 kills and 10 blocks to lead FDU-Florham to a 3-1, road triumph over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference match. Set scores were 25-18, 17-25, 25-21 and 25-16.
The victory improved the Devils to 3-13 overall and 2-2 in conference action. The Aggies saw their record fall to 10-5 and 1-3.
After the teams split the first two sets, FDU-Florham jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third set. It still held a 17-11 lead when Delaware Valley ripped off eight of the next nine points to take a 19-18 advantage. The Devils responded with three straight for a two-point advantage.
The Aggies got to within one on two occasions, including 22-21, but a kill by Erin Fleming, a Delaware Valley error and a service ace by Jean Etersque gave the Devils the set. They then took 21 of the first 29 points in the fourth set and cruised to the victory.
Riede had 14 kills and six blocks while Barenzano finished with 12 kills and four blocks. Savannah Hickox added eight kills and 12 digs while Riley Brewer notched 39 assists and 15 digs for FDU-Florham.
Janel Gluch paced Delaware Valley with 10 kills.
