DELVAL FALLS AT ALVERNIA

READING (PA) – Brian Nerney and Cory Boone each had double-doubles for Alvernia University as the Crusaders downed visiting Delaware Valley College, 71-56, in a non-conference game.

A tight first half saw Alvernia (9-3) take a 30-26 lead into the break. Jay Donovan opened the second stanza by draining a 3-pointer to pull the Aggies (2-9) to within one. However, they could never go ahead in the half and Alvernia eventually built its lead into double digits. It stayed there for most of the stanza.

Nerney and Boone combined to go 11-for-18 from the field and 10-for-11 from the foul line. Nerney finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Boone had 14 points, 10 boards and five blocks. As a team, the Crusaders shot 44.4 percent from the field and were 17-for-20 from the charity stripe. They also held a 44-26 advantage on the boards.

Delaware Valley was 39 percent from the field and just 50 percent (6-for-12) from the foul line. Nathan Bollinger paced the squad with 16 points while Daulton Derr added 15 points. Jeremy Beckett contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots in the loss.
