BIG SECOND HALF LEADS FDU-FLORHAM TO WIN OVER DELVAL

MADISON (NJ) – FDU-Florham outscored Delaware Valley College, 44-25, in the second half as the host Devils overcame a 12-point halftime deficit and picked up a 73-66, Freedom Conference victory.

FDU-Florham improved its record to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in league action while the Aggies dropped to 3-15 overall and 0-7 in the Freedom.

Delaware Valley had one of its best opening 20 minutes of the season as it raced out to a 41-29 advantage, including a 12-2 run midway through the stanza. The team hit 17 of 33 shots from the field (51.5%), including a 5-for-11 effort from 3-point land. Two of the treys came from Jay Donovan as the freshman finished the first half with 12 points. Daulton Derr added nine points, including seven in the big spurt.

The second half was a different story as the Devils scored 23 of the first 27 points to take a 52-45 lead midway through the stanza. Delaware Valley got its deficit down to three on two separate occasions, but a 9-2 FDU-Florham run put the Devil lead into double digits. The Aggies pulled to within six a few times down the stretch, but FDU-Florham had the answer each time. FDU-Florham shot 45.2 percent from the field and went 11-for-17 from the foul line in the second half while the Aggies were 9-for-27 (33.3%) from the field and were sent to the charity stripe just four times. 

Five different Devils hit double figures in scoring, including Andrew Stress who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Derek Hall and Mike Williamson added 15 and 14 points respectively with Hall also grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Adam Katz and Trevor Sykes finished with 12 points apiece.

Derr and Donovan had 18 points apiece for Delaware Valley. Derr was 7-for-10 from the field while Donovan was 7-for-12, including a 4-for-7 effort from beyond the arc. Nathan Bollinger added 16 points while leading scorer Jeremy Beckett was held to 1-for-7 shooting and finished with four points and nine boards.
