BALANCED ATTACK LEADS TO 65-55 VICTORY OVER FDU-FLORHAM

MADISON (NJ) – Delaware Valley College led from start to finish and placed five players in double figures as the Aggies notched a 65-55 victory over host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference game.

Delaware Valley improved to 9-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play with the win while the Devils fell to 8-11 and 4-5.

The Aggies scored the first seven points of the evening and never looked back. They built the lead to 25-8 12 minutes in, increased it to as many 18 in the half and eventually took a 37-22 advantage into the intermission. They connected on 51.7 percent of their shots from the field and held FDU-Florham to just 7-for-26 shooting (26.9%).

Delaware Valley then opened the second stanza with an 11-4 spurt to build its largest lead of the game, 48-26, with 14:33 left on the clock. Melissa Weil hit a pair of treys in the run while Emily Soper added the remaining five points.

The Devils made a late run and pulled to within six, 59-53, as Brianna Nicholls hit a free throw with 53 seconds to go. Weil was fouled two ticks later and the rookie hit both free throws to make it an eight-point lead. After a pair of 3-point misses by FDU-Florham, Sarah Delcasale was fouled with 33 seconds left and she hit both attempts to put the game away.

Jackie Shunkwiler was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and finished with 14 points to pace the Aggies. Brittany Battinieri added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven steals while Weil came off the bench for a career-high 13 points. Sarah Innerst and Emily Soper scored 11 points apiece and the two combined for 16 rebounds.

Matil Mangual led the Devils with a game-high 20 points. Shealyn Taggart finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
