ST. DAVIDS (PA) – It was another milestone day for
Brittany Battinieri as the senior guard became just the eighth player in Middle Atlantic Conference history to hit 200 career 3-pointers, but Delaware Valley College dropped an 82-65, Freedom contest to host Eastern University in the season finale for both teams.
The Aggies ended the 2010-11 campaign with a 9-16 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the Freedom. Eastern finished with marks of 16-9 and 8-6.
Last week, Battinieri broke Delaware Valley's all-time mark for treys as she surpassed the previous record of 189 by 2008 graduate Moira Donohue. Four days ago, she became the 12th player in Aggie women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone and did so, fittingly, with a long-range bomb.
Battinieri entered her final collegiate game needed six 3-pointers for the latest milestone. By halftime, she was more than halfway there as she connected on four of six attempts and finished the stanza with 14 points. However, Eastern's Bekah Roland was also after a milestone and her 10 points in the first half helped her eclipse the 1,000-point plateau and give the Eagles a 39-28 advantage at the break.
Eastern upped the lead to 23 with 8:42 remaining so the only drama left for the Aggies was Battinieri's chase for 200. She had yet to connect for a 3-pointer in the second half at that point, but got free and drained one just 22 second later for trey number 199. Then with 7:55 left, Battinieri hit the milestone 3-pointer.
Battinieri added one more trey down the stretch to give her 201 for her career. She finished the game with 29 points and upped her career total to 1,030. She placed 12th all-time in that category and also finished tied for fifth in career assists with 294.
Sarah Innerst notched 11 points while
Emily Soper added 10 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. The sophomore center ended the season with a school-record 84 blocked shots.
Roland and Shante Jones each finished with a double-double to pace the Eagles. Roland had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Jones finished with a team-high 25 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Katie Lincoln also added 20 points in the win.
