DELVAL FALLS TO ALVERNIA ON SENIOR DAY

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Eric Franks scored two goals to lead regionally-ranked Alvernia University to a 5-0, non-conference triumph over host Delaware Valley College.

Alvernia, ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic Region and coming off a 1-0 loss to defending national champion Messiah College, improved its record to 13-3-1. The Aggies fell to 4-13. They will end their season on Saturday, October 29 when they travel to Freedom Conference foe Misericordia University.

The Crusaders opened the scoring just 5:53 in as they were awarded a penalty kick and Franks blasted it home. EJ Logan made it 2-0 with 7:39 remaining in the opening half as he connected after the Aggies failed to clear the ball out of the box.

Franks got his second tally of the game and eighth of the season early in the second half as he booted home a direct free kick from 35 yards out. The Crusaders then added a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes with Nick Fore and Joe Gingrich credited with the tallies.

Alvernia outshot Delaware Valley, 14-8. Ben Diller stopped five shots, including a penalty kick opportunity 17 minutes in, for the shutout. Tristan Preece made five saves in net for the Aggies.

Preece was one of five Delaware Valley seniors honored before their final collegiate home game. The remaining seniors were Mark Bucci, James Fay, Tom Masterson and Joey Ordile.
