DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Eric McAnena and Ed Zulkoski had a goal and an assist apiece as Wilkes University notched a 4-3 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
The two picked up their assists in the first 16 minutes of the game as the Colonels (6-9, 2-4) took an early 2-0 lead. Zulkoski set up Michael Turner for the first goal while McAnena got the assist on a goal by Tyler Young.
Midway through the first half, the Aggies (4-11, 0-5) were awarded a penalty kick and
Tyler Yankovich converted for his seventh goal of the year.
The teams then traded goals on a pair of occasions in the second stanza. Zulkoski struck first for Wilkes while Delaware Valley's
Justin Mannato countered off a feed from
Joey Ordile. The Colonels went back by two as McAnena scored with 15:20 remaining. Just two minutes later,
James Fay made it 4-3 as he scored his second goal of the year off an assist by
Mark Bucci. However, the Aggies could not notch the equalizer the rest of the way.
Wilkes held advantages of 17-15 in shots and 8-2 in corners.
Chris Shaffer came off the bench early in the first half and finished the game with seven saves for Delaware Valley.
