JERSEY CITY (NJ) – Delaware Valley College tied the single-season record for victories as the Aggies split a pair of non-conference matches at New Jersey City University. The Aggies opened with a 3-0 loss to Hunter College, but bounced back with a 3-0 triumph over the host Gothic Knights.
The split moved Delaware Valley's overall record to 18-5, matching the win total of the 1997 edition (18-14). The Aggies will look to break the mark and clinch its first Freedom Conference playoff berth with a trip to DeSales University on Tuesday, October 18. An Aggie win over DeSales, which is tied for first in the conference, or a Misericordia University loss to FDU-Florham puts the team in the postseason.
On Saturday, Hunter (16-6) posted the straight-set win by score of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-13.
Destinee Horning paced the Aggies with six kills while
Crystal Ronan dished out 18 assists. Christine Luebcke paced Hunter with 10 kills.
Delaware Valley followed by downing New Jersey City (4-14) by set scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-18.
Janel Gluch had 16 kills and just two errors in 31 attempts (.452 percentage). Gluch also had four solo blocks in the match. Horning added five kills and 14 digs while Ronan had 28 assists, 10 digs and eight service aces.
