DELVAL DROPS 92-76 DECISION IN TOURNAMENT TITLE GAME

WILLIAMSPORT (PA) – Delaware Valley College sophomore center Jeremy Beckett scored 27 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies' dropped a 92-76 decision to host Lycoming College in the championship game of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament.

Beckett, who notched 22 points in Monday's opening round win over Worcester State College, was even better in the title contest. He connected on 10 of 15 shots from the field while 14 of his 18 boards came on the defensive end. Beckett also added three assists and two blocks and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

However, the Warriors (10-3) never trailed in the contest as they opened with eight straight points. Delaware Valley (5-5) did tie the contest at 12-12, but Lycoming responded with a 10-2 spurt to build an eight point advantage. The Warriors were up 10, 35-25, when the Aggies scored seven of the next nine – four by Beckett and a 3-pointer by Jason Goldheimer, to make it a five-point game with just 1:24 left in the opening half. However, Lycoming netted 10 straight points, including eight by Will Kelly, to close the half and take a 47-32 advantage into the locker room.

Delaware Valley made a run early in the second half as seven consecutive points pulled them to within eight, 51-43, with 16:03 remaining. The Warriors followed with their own 7-0 run and the Aggies never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

The teams combined for just 17 turnovers in the contest. One of the major keys was 3-point shooting as Lycoming hit 10 of 21 shots (47.6%) from beyond the arc while the Aggies were just 4-for-23 (17.4%).

Jerald Williams was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament as the Lycoming guard dished out 17 assists to go along with seven points, four rebounds and four steals. Ihsaan Davis scored 27 points thanks to 7-for-9 shooting from 3-point land. Kelly had 16 points and 12 rebounds to earn a spot on the all-tournament team while Kevin Anthony added 19 points and eight boards.

In addition to Beckett's effort, senior guard James Jones had a strong showing for Delaware Valley as he finished the afternoon with 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Freshman Nathan Bollinger poured in 13 points while senior Chris Ellis added 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
