ROSEMONT (PA) – Rosemont College rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit to force overtime and then pulled out an 82-78 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Ravens, who improved to 3-7 on the season. The Aggies saw their overall mark fall to 6-8.
Delaware Valley used a late run in the first half to take a 36-29 advantage at the break. The Aggies then built the lead to 50-38 five minutes into the second stanza and still led by 10, 57-47 with 7:10 remaining despite
Emily Soper, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, fouling out just under the 10-mute mark.
Senior point guard
Brittany Battinieri then fouled out with 1:54 remaining, leaving the Aggies without their second leading scorer and floor general. Delaware Valley was up seven at the time, but Rosemont chipped away at it and tied the game at 66-66 on a 3-pointer by Ashley Montecchio with 40 seconds remaining. The Aggies'
Melissa Weil hit a pair of free throws with 30 ticks to go, but Montecchio answered with two of her own with four seconds left. Delaware Valley could not get a shot off before the buzzer and the game headed to overtime.
Freshman
Sarah Innerst drilled a 3-pointer just 16 seconds into the extra session to give Delaware Valley a 71-68 advantage. It would be the team's last lead as the Ravens netted seven straight for a for a 75-71 score. Rosemont was still up four, 79-75, when Weil made things interesting by drilling a trey with 13 seconds remaining. The Ravens's Heather Daneker was fouled six seconds later and only hit one of two free throws. Weil dribbled the length of the court but her running shot missed and Daneker grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She hit both free throws to put the game away.
Shannon Mack scored 23 points before fouling out near the end of regulation to pace Rosemont. Montecchio had 17 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks while Daneker finished with 16 points and 10 boards.
Sarah Delcasale notched 19 points, six rebounds and five assists before fouling out late in overtime for Delaware Valley.
Jackie Shunkwiler had 18 points, 15 rebounds and four assists while Battinieri added 11 points, six assists, six rebounds and five steals. Soper played just 13 minutes due to the foul troubles and ended the evening with nine points and three rebounds.
