DELVAL DROPS TWO-POINT DECISION AT ELIZABETHTOWN

ELIZABETHTOWN (PA) – Keith Fogel notched 23 points, including a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left that proved to be the difference, as Elizabethtown College squeaked by visiting Delaware Valley College, 76-74, in a non-conference game.

The win improved the Blue Jays to 3-1 on the young season while the Aggies fell to 3-1. The three losses are by a combined 10 points.

The final 15 minutes of the contest saw nine ties and 11 lead changes with neither team holding more than a four-point advantage. The last four-point lead was a 71-67 Elizabethtown advantage as Fogel hit a pair of foul shots with 1:32 left on the clock. Delaware Valley came back down and senior Jason Goldheimer drilled his sixth 3-pointer of the game to make it a one-point game with 79 seconds to go. The Blue Jays turned the ball over and James Jones responded with a layup to give the Aggies a 72-71 lead as the clock ticked under the one-minute mark.

Fogel came back and hit a trey with 49 seconds left as Elizabethtown regained the lead at 74-72. Delaware Valley answered again as Chris Ellis got inside for a layup and a tied ballgame with 20 ticks remaining. Fogel was fouled six seconds later and he calmly hit both shots from the line for a 76-74 score. The Blue Jays had a foul to give and did so with three seconds left. The Aggies were unable to get a shot off and Elizabethtown came away with the win.

The Blue Jays shot 50.9 percent from the field (28-for-55) and were able to get to the foul line eight more times than Delaware Valley. The Aggies were hot from long range as they hit 11 of 23 attempts and also held a 38-35 advantage on the boards.

Fogel was 7-for-12 from the field (3-for-4 from 3-point land) and 6-for-7 from the foul line for his 23-point effort. Joe Flanagan added 16 points while Kyle McConnell had 15 points, seven assists and seven steals.

Goldheimer was 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and finished with a team-high 18 points. Ellis had 17 points and six rebounds while Jeremy Beckett had a second straight double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. Jones added nine points and nine assists in the loss.
