BIG SECOND HALF PROPELS AGGIES TO 95-69 VICTORY OVER CENTENARY

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College opened the second half with a 23-2 run, including 19 straight at one point, as the Aggies rallied from a halftime deficit and routed Centenary College, 95-69, in a non-conference game.

Delaware Valley improved to 8-4 on the season and will return to the Freedom Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday, January 9 when it travels to Misericordia University. The Cyclones fell to 4-4.

Centenary, which entered the game leading all of Division III in scoring with an average of 87.3 points per game, took a 44-43 advantage into the intermission after an up-tempo first half that featured 82 shots, eight ties and 11 lead changes. The pace continued after the break, but it was all Aggies in the final 20 minutes, particularly the first 12. Back-to-back layups by Kim Vennera and Brittney Zimmerman gave them a three-point lead but a pair of free throws by Centenary's Kristen Camuso cut it to one at 47-46 with 16:17 remaining.

Delaware Valley responded with 19 consecutive points to blow the game wide-open at 66-46 with 8:07 to go. Emily Soper had six points to lead the spurt while Jackie Shunkwiler and Brittney Zimmerman added five apiece. Meanwhile the Aggie defense held the Cyclones without a field goal until Camuso connected on a layup with 7:49 left on the clock. Centenary never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way while the Delaware Valley lead ballooned to as many as 26.

Centenary finished the second half just 8-for-41 (19.5%) from the field and committed 14 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Aggies held a 39-28 advantage on the boards and were 14-for-16 from the foul line in those 20 minutes.

Zimmerman was everywhere on the court as the sophomore finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and three assists. Soper (15 points, 10 rebounds) and fellow freshman Jenna Peoples (17 points, 12 rebounds) each posted a double-double while Shunkwiler nearly joined them as she finished with eight points and 13 boards. Vennera had 17 points on the evening while Brittany Battinieri scored seven points and dished out a career-high nine assists.

Camuso had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Cyclone. Jen Vasta added 12 points and five assists while Marissa DiStasio notched 10 points and 12 boards.
