VENNERA PACES AGGIES TO 78-72 TRIUMPH OVER KING'S

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley used an 11-0, second-half run to erase a three-point deficit and post a 78-72 victory over visiting King's College in a Freedom Conference game.

The Aggies improved to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in league play with the win while the Lady Monarchs saw their records fall to 7-8 and 2-2.

King's received back-to-back layups from Lindsay Atchison and Julianna Lynott to take a 57-54 lead with 8:30 remaining in the contest. However, the next three minutes was all Delaware Valley as Sarah Delcasale began the spurt with a layup and Emily Soper followed with a pair of free throws. Delcasale drove to the hoop again to give the Aggies a three-point lead, and Brittany Battinieri doubled that with a long trey. Soper then two more free throws with 5:54 remaining to complete the 11-0 run and give Delaware Valley a 65-57 advantage.

The Aggies pushed the lead up to 10, 72-62 with 2:24 to go before King's answered with six straight – the last three coming on a bomb by Brittany Muscatell, to make it 72-68 with 55 seconds on the clock. A Jenna Peoples jumper for Delaware Valley and a pair of free throws kept it a four-point game 35 seconds later. The Aggies broke the press and got another layup by Peoples with 15 ticks remaining and Muscatell followed with a layup of her own to make it 76-72 with just eight seconds left. Battinieri iced it with a pair from the foul line five seconds later.

The first half saw King's hold a 20-19 advantage when Delaware Valley scored 15 of the next 19 points, including seven by Kim Vennera to take a double-digit lead with 4:21 to go in the half. The Lady Monarchs battled back with an 11-5 run to pull to within four, 39-35 at the break. King's eventually got the lead midway through the second stanza, but the Aggies went on their big run and never trailed again.

Vennera finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Battinieri added 16 points and five helpers while Peoples had 14 points and six boards. Soper notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and added three blocks. Zimmerman contributed eight points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Megan Rigous came off the bench to pace King's 15 points and added seven rebounds. Magan had 12 points while Paige Carlin and Muscatell finished with 11 points apiece while combining for 12 assists.
