DOYLESTOWN (PA) – King's College was 19-for-22 from the foul line in the second half, including a perfect 10-for-10 in the final three minutes, as the Monarchs held on for a 78-74 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
The game featured 10 ties and numerous lead changes in the first 29 minutes, including when Dan Maguschak hit a jumper with 11:05 to go to give King's (7-8, 3-1) the lead for good at 48-47. However, it wasn't easy as its advantage never ballooned past six and the Aggies (6-7, 1-3) pulled to as close as one, 70-69 on a
Jason Goldheimer trey with 2:31 to go. That bomb came 19 seconds after Mike Wagner hit a pair of free throws for the Monarchs to start their late-game proficiency from the foul line.
Kyle Stackhouse hit two free throws with 1:24 left to up the lead back to three. Both teams missed chances for the next 50 seconds before
Chris Mayo hit a one of two from the foul line for the Aggies to make it 72-70. Maguschak was fouled with 23 ticks remaining and he hit both to go up four. Mayo came back for a driving layup with 12 seconds left and a 74-72 contest.
Maguschak was fouled on the inbounds pass a second later and he again hit two shots from the line to put King's up 76-72. Delaware Valley's
James Jones pulled up in the paint and hit a jumper with five seconds left to cut its deficit in half. However, the Monarchs were able to run off four seconds before Nick Reisig was fouled. He nailed both attempts from the foul line to ice the game.
Maguschak was 6-for-7 from the foul line for the game and finished with a team-high 15 points as five King's players reached double digits in scoring. Mike Cready poured in 13 points while Kevin Conroy had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Reisig and Stackhouse finished with 10 points apiece.
Darryl White led the Aggies with 23 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks. Mayo came off the bench to notch 18 points and six boards while Jones finished with 11 points and five assists.
