AGGIES FALL 67-64 AT MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE (NY) – Nina Johnson and Olivia Nastasi combined for 11 of their 32 points in the final five minutes as host Manhattanville College rallied for a 67-64 victory over Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.

Delaware Valley (10-11, 4-8 Freedom), behind 13 points from Rochelle Teesdale, led by as many as 12 in the first half and took a 34-30 advantage into the intermission. Manhattanville (12-9, 8-4) tied the game early in the second stanza, but the Aggies regained the lead and built it up to as high as nine, 57-48, with 6:44 remaining.

Delaware Valley still held a 61-55 advantage after Brittney Zimmerman sank a pair of free throws with 5:07 remaining. Nastasi began the Valiants' comeback with a layup with 4:34 remaining and Johnson followed with a layup of her own just 33 seconds later to make it a two-point contest.

Mandi Wilson put Delaware Valley up four with a jumper with 2:13 to go, but a Johnson layup and a pair of Nastasi free throws tied the contest at 63-63 with just 1:25 left. After a missed 3-pointer, by the Aggies, Nastasi got into the paint for a basket with 49 seconds remaining to give Manhattanville a two-point lead.

Kim Vennera was fouled on Delaware Valley's next possession, but only hit one of two attempts. Simona Gordon did the same for the Valiants with 21 ticks to go, but Manhattanville grabbed the offensive board and Johnson was fouled with 16 seconds. She missed the first attempt but sank the second for a 67-64 lead. Vennera could not get an open look for a game-tying 3-point attempt and Zimmerman's heave at the buzzer fell short.

Johnson finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, including six of the team's 28 on the offensive end as Manhattanville held a 55-40 overall advantage on the boards. Nastasi had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Gordon poured in 10 points. Laura Grenier added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Vennera, the Freedom Conference's leading scorer (20.3 avg) struggled from the field all afternoon, hitting just 4 of 15 shots. She was 8-for-11 on the foul line and finished with 17 points. The junior guard also led the team with 14 rebounds. Zimmerman notched 16 points and six assists while Teesdale had one basket in the second half and finished with 15 points.
