DOYLESTOWN (PA) – FDU-Florham scored 15 of the game's final 16 points as the Devils rallied from a 17-point, first-half deficit and downed host Delaware Valley College, 68-61, in a Freedom Conference game.
The win improved FDU-Florham to 10-11 overall and 4-8 in the Freedom while the Aggies fell back to the .500 at 10-10 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
Delaware Valley opened the contest with a 16-4 run and built its advantage to 27-10 with exactly eight minutes remaining in the half.
Brittney Zimmerman keyed the Aggies' start by scoring 12 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.
FDU-Florham got as close as nine in the stanza, but Zimmerman continued her torrid play by draining another trey and connecting on a three-point play inside to give her 18 points in the half. Delaware Valley eventually took a 36-26 advantage into the intermission.
The Devils slowly crept back into the game and pulled to within five before a
Kim Vennera jumper gave the Aggies a 60-53 lead with 3:29 remaining. It was all FDU-Florham from there as they scored eight straight to take its first lead since the opening seconds of the game. Danielle Michlovsky completed the spurt with a basket and a foul and a 61-60 advantage with 1:53 remaining.
Zimmerman was fouled 14 seconds later and hit one of two free throws to tie the game. The Devils then poured in the final seven to complete the game-changing 15-1 run. Matil Mangual began the spurt with a layup with a minute remaining and, after a Vennera miss, Courtney Young hit one of two free throws. Zimmerman missed a game-tying trey and Emily Cerankowsi was fouled with 19 seconds to go. The senior hit both attempts for a 66-61 advantage. The Aggies turned the ball over and Cerankowski clinched the comeback with two more free throws with four ticks left.
Cerankowski finished with 19 points while Michlovsky added 17. Young notched 11 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in the victory.
Vennera led the Aggies with 22 points and also added seven rebounds and five assists. Zimmerman had just one point in the second stanza to finish with 19 on the evening.
Jackie Shunkwiler hit double digits with 11 points.
