DOYLESTOWN (PA) – King's College led from start to finish as the Lady Monarchs posted a 76-60 road victory over Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
The win improved to King's to 9-14 overall, 7-7 and tied for fourth place in league play with two contests remaining. The Aggies fell to 11-12 overall and 5-9 in the Freedom.
The Lady Monarchs scored five points in the opening 39 seconds and never look back. They build the lead to as many as 12, 31-19, in the first half and eventually took a 41-32 advantage into the intermission. Kaitlyn Fiorino scored 11 points in the opening 20 minutes for the King's while the Aggies
Kim Vennera had 10.
The Lady Monarch lead ballooned to as many as 13 early in the second stanza. Delaware Valley pulled to within eight points on several occasions, the last coming after a Vennera free throw made it 68-60 with 2:19 remaining. However, King's went a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.
Fiorino paced the Lady Monarchs with 16 points while Jessica Paettie added 13 points. Julianna Lynott notched a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds and Brittany Muscatell finished with nine points and eight assists.
Vennera scored a game-high 21 points and the junior is now 35 points shy of becoming just the 11th player in Aggie women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She also moved to sixth place on the single-season scoring list as she now has 471 points on the year. Vennera also notched eight rebounds and three steals in the contest.
Brittney Zimmerman notched 12 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals while Jackie Shunwilker and
Mandi Wilson scored eight points apiece in the loss.
