AGGIES DOWN WESLEY, ADVANCE TO TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

DOVER (DE) -- The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team led from start to finish as the Aggies downed host Wesley College, 59-47, in the opening round of Wesley's Holiday Tournament.

The win was the fourth straight for Delaware Valley as it improved to 7-3 on the season. The winning streak will be put to the test in Tuesday's championship as the Aggies will meet seventh-ranked Kean University (10-1). The Cougars won their 10th consecutive game as they rallied for a 68-59 triumph over Widener University in the other first-round match-up.

Delaware Valley led by as many as nine in the first half and took a 30-22 advantage into the break. The teams exchanged 3-pointers to start the second stanza before the Aggies went on a 9-1 run to build a 42-26 lead with 13:43 remaining. They extended the lead to as many as 18 and the Wolvernines (3-6) never got to within single digits during the rest of the contest.

Delaware Valley dominated the boards as it held a 51-30 advantage in the category. The team's defense was also strong as it held Wesley to just 24.6 percent shooting (15-for-61) from the field. 

Freshman Emily Soper paced the Aggies with 18 points and 12 rebounds while senior Kim Vennera added 13 points and four assists. The two combined for 19 of the team's 30 points in the first half. Jenna Peoples and Brittney Zimmerman notched eight points apiece with Zimmerman also adding seven rebounds.

Angie Owens had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wolverines.
