IMMACULATA (PA) – The backcourt tandem of
Kim Vennera and
Brittany Battinieri combined to shoot 18-for-27 from the field and finished with 51 points as Delaware Valley College coasted to an 81-64, non-conference victory over host Immaculata University.
The Aggies (6-3), playing for the first time in 11 days, led from start to finish as they scored the first 10 points of the contest and 23 of the first 26. Vennera got off to a quick start with eight points in the run.
The Mighty Macs (6-3) pulled to within nine, 36-27, with 6:25 left in the half, but Delaware Valley eventually took an 11-point advantage, 46-35 into the intermission. The Aggies were 18-for-35 (51.4%) from the field in those opening 20 minutes.
The teams traded baskets to start the second stanza before Delaware Valley went on a 13-1 run for a 61-38 advantage. Battinieri scored 11 points in the spurt, including a trio of baskets from 3-point land.
All 15 Aggies saw action in the contest. Vennera finished 11-for-16 from the field and 9-for-11 from the foul line for 31 points. The senior also added five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Battinieri, a junior, was 7-for-11 from the field (5-for-8 from 3-point land) and ended the evening with 20 points. Freshman forward
Emily Soper had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Chelsea McTigue and Kelly Brown had 16 and 15 points respectively for Immaculata.
