AGGIES USE SECOND-HALF RUN TO DOWN PREVIOUSLY UNBEATEN MARYWOOD

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – A balanced attack saw four Delaware Valley College players reach double figures in scoring, with six finding the net in a 15-0, second-half run, as the Aggies pulled away from previously undefeated Marywood University, 75-64, in a non-conference game.

The win was the second straight for Delaware Valley (5-3), which upended two-time defending Freedom Conference champion DeSales University last Saturday. The Pacers' seven-game winning streak came to an end with their first setback of the season.

An up-tempo game saw strong shooting from both squads in the first half. The Pacers connected on half of their shots from the field (15-for-30) while Delaware Valley was 15-for-33 (45.5%), including a 6-for-11 effort (54.5%) from beyond the arc. The Aggies were up by as many as nine in the stanza, but the Pacers went on a late spurt and pulled to within one, 38-37, at the break.

The lead changed hands five times in the opening nine minutes of the second half. Marywood grabbed the last of those advantages and were still up two, 54-52, after Lizzy Green hit one of two free throws with 11:18 left in the contest.

It was all Delaware Valley from there as the Aggies held the Pacers scoreless for nearly seven minutes and put 15 on the scoreboard themselves for a 67-54 lead. Kim Vennera and Brittany Battinieri had four and three points respectively in the run while Jenna Peoples, Jackie Shunkwiler, Rochelle Teesdale and Brittney Zimmerman had two points apiece. Delaware Valley extended the lead to as many as 14 and Marywood never closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Zimmerman finished with a game-high 22 points as she was 6-for-9 from the field (3-for-5 from 3-point land) and a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line. The sophomore guard also added six rebounds and five steals.  Battinieri had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists while freshman forward Emily Soper tallied 15 points and eight rebounds. Vennera hit double digits with 12 points and added four rebounds and three steals in the victory.

Green led Marywood with 21 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. Mariah Schaeffer had 13 points while Amanda Lass chipped in with five points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
