DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Kim Vennera scored 12 of her game-high 26 points in a 17-4, first-half run that gave Delaware Valley College the lead for good as the Aggies posted a 67-56 victory over visiting Lycoming College in a non-conference game.
The win improved the Aggies to 3-2 on the young season as they head into their Freedom Conference opener at FDU-Florham on Wednesday, December 2 (6:00 p.m.). The Lady Warriors saw their record fall to 1-4.
The opening 10 minutes of the game saw both teams shoot under 20 percent from the field and combine for 16 turnovers as Lycoming held a slim, 11-7 advantage. Vennera took over the next eight minutes as the two-time, all-Freedom honoree hit a pair of treys, a jumper, a layup and two free throws.
Brittany Battinieri added a 3-pointer and
Rochelle Teesdale drained a jumper to round out the Aggies' 17 points in the spurt as they took a 24-15 advantage. Delaware Valley would eventually hold a 27-20 lead at the intermission.
The Lady Warriors scored six straight early in the second half to make it a 37-34 contest, but Vennera hit a 3-pointer and followed with two free throws to bump the lead back up to eight. Lycoming stayed within range and were down by just five, 44-39, with 8:57 left on the clock, but Delaware Valley countered with 12 of the game's next 14 points and a 56-41 lead. The Lady Warriors never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Vennera was 7-for-12 from the field (3-for-4 from 3-point land) and 9-for-13 from the charity stripe. She also added five rebounds and three steals.
Emily Soper reached double digits with 10 points while
Brittney Zimmerman tallied nine points, five rebounds and five steals.
Brittany Battinieri added seven points, six assists and five boards in the win.
Jessica Zerbee was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, en route to a team-high 16 points for Lycoming. She also had five assists and five rebounds. Alicia Engler and LeeAnn Randall finished with seven points apiece while Rachel Scheller added four points and a team-high seven rebounds.
