ANNVILLE (PA) – Delaware Valley College heated up in the second half and scored as many points in those 20 minutes as Neumann University had for the entire game as the Aggies notched a 73-54 triumph in the opening round of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College.
With the win, Delaware Valley improved to 2-0 on the season, and will now take on the host Flying Dutchmen in Saturday's championship game (3:00 p.m.). Lebanon Valley posted an 81-44 rout of Clarkson College in the other opening round match-up.
Both teams struggled in the first half with the Aggies taking a 19-16 lead into the intermission. They hit just nine of 31 shots (29 percent) from the field, but the Knights (1-2) were even colder as they managed just five baskets in 29 attempts (17.2 percent).
However, Delaware Valley was able to turn it on in the second stanza as it hit half of their shots from the field in the second stanza and was also 26-for-34 from the foul line. The Aggies used an 18-6 run over a five-minute stretch to build a 45-27 advantage with 10:44 remaining. Neumann never threatened after that as it got no closer than 12 points. Its shooting woes continued with a 12.9 percent showing in the half and the Knights finished at just 23.1 percent (15-for-65) for the contest.
Kim Vennera paced the Aggies with 20 points and added eight rebounds and four steals.
