DELVAL OPENS '09-10 CAMPAIGN WITH 68-42 VICTORY OVER ROSEMONT

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College scored the first 14 points of the game as the Aggies cruised to a 68-42, non-conference victory over Rosemont College in the season opener for both teams.

Senior guard and two-time all-Freedom Conference honoree Kim Vennera scored on a layup off the opening tip to begin the early spurt. She had five of the first 14 points while freshmen Emily Soper and Jenna Peoples added five and four points respectively in the run.

Meanwhile, the Ravens did not get on the scoreboard for the first six minutes and wound up shooting just 10 percent from the field (3-for-30) while committing 20 turnovers in the first half. The Aggies led by as many as 24 in the opening 20 minutes and eventually took a 34-13 advantage into the break.

Delaware Valley upped its lead to as many as 32 on two occasions in the second half. The team continued to play strong defense and finished the contest by holding Rosemont to a 12-for-56 (21.4%) showing from the field.

All 15 players saw action for the Aggies with Vennera leading the way with 13 points, seven steals, six rebounds and six assists in 25 minutes. Sophomore Jackie Shunkwiler came off the bench to notch 12 points and seven boards in 14 minutes while Soper and Peoples combined for 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks up front. Junior Brittany Battinieri added eight points, five boards and for steals in her first game since last December when she went down with a season-ending injury.

Ashley Montecchio notched a double-double for Rosemont as she finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Heather Daneker added 12 points in the loss.
