CENTER VALLEY (PA) – The Delaware Valley College men's soccer team opened Freedom Conference play with a 2-0 loss at regionally-ranked DeSales University on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the third straight for the Bulldogs, who were seventh in the latest NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional poll. Their overall record now stands at 8-2. The Aggies, off to their best start in program history, saw their overall record drop to 6-3-1.
DeSales wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Derek Long found the net off assists from Matt Murphy and Steve Krause just 2:41 into the contest. It remained a one-goal contest for the next 68 minutes, thanks to three team saves on the goal line at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. The Bulldogs finally got their insurance goal with 9:18 remaining on Jonathan Balfour's unassisted tally.
DeSales outshout Delaware Valley, 30-10, and had a 12-8 advantage in corners as well. Adam Franczak made five saves en route to the shutout, while freshman D.J. Meisinger recorded 10 saves for the Aggies.
