AGGIES NOTCH FOURTH VICTORY IN A ROW, WIN AT WILKES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1977

WILKES-BARRE (PA) – It was a game of firsts for Delaware Valley College, including their first win at Wilkes University in 31 years, as the Aggies posted an 81-75 victory over the Colonels in a Freedom Conference game.

The last time the Aggies won in the Marts Center was a 63-61 triumph in the second game of the 1977-78 campaign - four years before rookie head coach Casey Stitzel was even born. Saturday's triumph was their fourth in a row (first time since 2000-01) and it upped their record to 8-10 overall and 4-6 in the Freedom. They are now just a half game out of the fifth and final playoff spot in the Freedom with six conference games remaining. Delaware Valley will aim for their fifth straight win for the first time since 1984-85 when they host FDU-Florham on Wednesday, February 4 (8:00 p.m.).

The Aggies held a 32-30 advantage at halftime but fell behind two, 36-34, in the opening minutes of the second stanza. They then took charge with a 17-6 run for a 51-42 advantage with 13:11 remaining. Chris Mayo and James Jones led the run with eight and six points respectively.

The Colonels (10-8, 6-5) scored five straight, all by Kendall Hinze, to make it a four-point game, but, with the shot clock winding down, 6-foot-5 center Edward Carter hit a 3-pointer for the Aggies. Jones Jason Goldheimer followed with back-to-back layups and Delaware Valley suddenly had a 58-47 lead with 10:17 to go.

Wilkes cut its deficit to five, 64-58, with five minutes left in the game, but a layup by Jason Seipt and a pair of free throws by Jones upped the lead for Delaware Valley once again. The Aggies did their job down the stretch as they hit 10 of 12 foul shots in the final 85 seconds to keep the Colonels from getting any closer than six points.

Jones finished with a game-high 27 points and also added three assists and three steals. Mayo keyed Delaware Valley's 11-for-19 showing from 3-point land by hitting four bombs and finishing with 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Seipt notched 14 points and four assists and the senior is now three helpers shy of breaking the school's all-time record of 389 set by Joe Butts from 1985 to 1989. Carter added nine points and six boards in the win.

Chris DeRojas scored 20 points while Hinze added 15 for Wilkes. Tom Kresge just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds and Paul Huch reached double digits with 10 points.
