DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Trevoy Pointer connected for 25 points as Manhattanville College erased an 11-point, first-half deficit and downed host Delaware Valley College, 72-65, in a Freedom Conference game.
The Aggies (2-6, 0-2) scored 12 points off of turnovers to help them jump out to a 31-20 advantage with 4:17 remaining in the first half. However, the Valiants scored nine straight, including seven by Pointer, to pull to within two at the intermission.
The second half featured eight ties, including a 54-54 deadlock with 7:46 remaining. Manhattanville scored seven straight, but back came Delaware Valley as it notched eight of the next nine to make it a 62-62 contests with 2:15 remaining.
Pointer hit a pair of foul shots 25 seconds later to give the Valiants a lead they would never relinquish. Angelo LaRoche added a layup and a pair of free throws to up the lead to six but,
Zach Wise cut that in half with a 3-pointer with 31 seconds remaining. Pointer was fouled three ticks later and hit both free throws for a 70-65 advantage. Pointer then grabbed the defensive rebound off a Wise missed and was fouled with 19 seconds left. He hit both foul shots to ice the game.
In addition to Pointer, LaRoche and Lamar Glass hit double digits with 18 and 11 points respectively. Jay Ferriere dished out 13 assists in the victory.
Mike Williams scored 22 points and also grabbed seven rebounds for the Aggies. Transfer James Pope notched 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds in his first game with Delaware Valley while
James Jones finished with 11 points, five assists and four steals.
Jason Seipt added nine points, seven rebounds and six assists in the loss.
