WILLIAMSPORT (PA) – Lycoming College scored 11 of the game's final 14 points to break a 57-57 stalemate and notch a 68-60 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.
The first half was a back and forth affair that saw four ties and five lead changes. The Aggies (3-3) took a 24-23 lead on a 3-pointer by
Erin Boyer, but the Lady Warriors (5-1) came back downcourt and Jessica Zerbree hit a trey of her own. Delaware Valley tied the contest on its next possession as
Kim Vennera broke through for a layup, but Lycoming scored seven straight to take a 33-26 advantage into the intermission.
The Lady Warriors upped the lead to as many as 10 in the second half and still held a 57-50 advantage with 4:09 remaining. Delaware Valley then put together a 7-0 run as back-to-back layups by
Jackie Shunkwiler and Vennera was followed by a long range bomb from Boyer to tie the contest at 57-57 with 2:25 remaining.
However, Lycoming scored eight straight – five by Rebecca Leid - to take the lead for good. The Aggies picked up the next three points on a free throw by Shunkwiler and a layup by Vennera, but the Lady Warriors put the game away by going 3-for-4 from the foul line.
Vennera finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Shunkwiler, a freshman, added 16 points and nine boards. Fellow rookie
Brittney Zimmerman tallied seven points, six rebounds and nine assists in the loss.
Allison Mock led Lycoming with 17 points. Alicia Engler (13 points), Andrea Cooper (10 points) and Jessica Nabholz (10 points) hit double digits in scoring while Leid finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
