CHESTER (PA) – Five Delaware Valley College players reached double figures in scoring as the Aggies routed Penn State Brandywine, 102-56, in the consolation game of the Oki Data America Tip-Off held at Widener University. The win was also the first in the collegiate head coaching career of Casey Stitzel.
Delaware Valley (1-2) led for all but 69 seconds in the contest. Eleven players hit the scoring column as the squad shot 52 percent (39-for-75) from the field and had 30 assists to just seven turnovers.
The Aggies held an 18-10 advantage when they erupted for a 15 straight points and 24 of 31 to take full command of the game. James Jones scored 10 of the 24 points while Cam Prince and Mike Williams added four apiece. They ended the half with a 58-32 lead thanks to a 24-for-40 (60.0%) effort from the field.
Penn State Brandywine (0-3) never got closer than 22 points in the second stanza and the Delaware Valley ballooned to as many as 49 on two occasions.
Jones was named to the all-tournament team as the sophomore transfer from Widener returned to his old gym and notched 42 points and 11 assists over the two games. He finished Saturday's win with 23 points and eight helpers in just 28 minutes of action.
Freshman Chris Mayo had 17 points and five rebounds while Williams, another rookie, netted a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards. Sophomore Jason Goldheimer connected for 11 points whole freshman Edward Carter came off the bench to tally 10 points and five rebounds in 14 minutes. Senior point guard Jason Seipt netted just five points, but he distributed eight assists and did not turn the ball over in 28 minutes of action.
John Sheehan paced Penn State Brandywine with 15 points and also added seven rebounds. Kyle Haggerty reached double digits as well with 10 points.
