Rick Barry joined DelVal and was named Assistant Coach in the 2024-25 season.
Rick brings more than 20 years of coaching experience on the college and youth level to Delaware Valley.Â
As an assistant men’s basketball coach at Stockton University under the legendary Gerry Matthews, the second winningest college coach in New Jersey history, Rick helped lead the team to two NJAC titles, two NCAA tournament berths, and three ECAC berths.
In addition to his experience coaching at the collegiate level, Rick has spent more than 15 years coaching AAU, travel and youth basketball as a head coach, many of his former players moving on to play in college.
A graduate of Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta, NJ, Rick went on to play collegiate basketball at Quinnipiac University under fellow Quinnipiac Hall of Famer Coach Bill Mecca. As a point guard, Barry served as team co-captain and was named to the Northeast-10 Conference First Team as a senior in 1994–95. He was also named to the NABC Northeast Regional First Team and was an All-American Honorable Mention. Barry holds the record for most three point shots in a game (12) and in a single season (99). He is ranked sixth all-time in scorers with 1,732 points, ninth all-time in field goal attempts (597), 11th in free-throws made (312), third in three-point field goals (226), sixth in assists (345) and 12th in steals (95).
Barry achieved career-high scoring games with 51 points against Bentley University and 53 points against Southern Connecticut University, both resulting in victories. He was inducted into the Quinnipiac Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
