Chimera enters his fourth season at DelVal and brings with him a wealth of coaching experience from the local high school scene.
Chimera began his high school coaching career alongside fellow DelVal assistant coach Dennis Steinly at Hatboro-Horsham High School. He was Steinly’s assistant from 2006 to 2012, including a two-year stint as the associate head coach.
Chimera then moved onto Souderton High School and served as the Indians’ head boy’s basketball coach from 2012 to 2015. During those three years, Chimera’s teams qualified for the district playoffs each season and posted first-round wins in both 2013 and 2014. The 2013 squad were also co-champions of the Suburban One League Continental Conference. Ten of Chimera’s players received all-conference honors.
Chimera also spent a number of years with the Montgomery Basketball Association and the Montgomery Basketball AAU squad. He is a member of the association’s Hall of Fame. He has coached youth basketball as well as other sports since 1997.
Chimera played basketball at Moravian College and graduated from the institution with a bachelor of science degree in business management in 1988. He later went back to complete a teaching certification intern program at DelVal in 2010.
Chimera currently resides in Buckingham, Pennsylvania with his wife Carolyn, son Hayden (11) and daughters Emma (21) and Lauryn (11). He also has a 25-year-old son who is a civil engineer in Nashville, Tennessee.
