One of the top players in Delaware Valley field hockey history, Schwendeman (nee Cernobyl) is entering her 10th year as an assistant coach with her alma mater in 2017. The team has reached the MAC Freedom Tournament three times and has also made one ECAC postseason appearance during her coaching tenure.
Cernobyl was part of the coaching staff for the most successful season in program history as the 2013 Aggies won a school-record 13 games and captured the top seed in the MAC Freedom tournament. They hosted a playoff game for the first time and it was an overtime semifinal battle. Delaware Valley was then selected for the ECAC tournament for the first time and the squad pulled off a road upset in the quarterfinals before falling in the semis.Â
Cernobyl is the Aggies’ all-time leader in both goals (69) and points (155) while her 17 assists rank third on the career list. Her top statistical season was her senior campaign in 2008 as she set records with 23 goals and 51 points.
Â
Cernobyl was a three-time, all-Freedom Conference honoree, including first-team honors in 2006 when she helped lead Delaware Valley to the conference tournament. She graduated from the institution in 2009 with a degree in secondary education with an emphasis on biology.
