Aggies Fall to Stevens in Conference Opener

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Delaware Valley University women's volleyball team opened MAC Freedom play on the road Tuesday night, falling to Stevens in straight sets, 25-7, 25-16, 25-15.

Stevens controlled the opening frame, using an early run to create separation and take the set, 25-7. Layla-Deanna Rabanal led the DelVal attack with three kills in the frame, while Ariana Hernandez and Monique Smith also found the floor.

The Aggies responded with a stronger showing in the second, staying within reach behind kills from Charlotte Kampf, Madison Alexander, Zoe Bera and Rabanal. Bera tallied three kills in the set as DelVal more than doubled its offensive output from the opening frame, but Stevens maintained its advantage to take the set, 25-16.

DelVal battled the Ducks to a 5-5 tie early in the third behind kills from Smith and Rabanal and a Rabanal service ace. Stevens pulled ahead, but back-to-back kills from Smith helped the Aggies continue to battle midway through the frame. The Ducks regained control down the stretch to take the set, 25-15, and secure the 3-0 victory.

The Aggies return to action this Thursday, Sep. 17 taking on Penn State Brandywine at home in James Work Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
