DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Angelina Bresnen powered Delaware Valley softball to a sweep of Franklin & Marshall on Thursday afternoon, launching three home runs, including a grand slam in game one.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 7 – Franklin & Marshall 1
Amelia Funston got things started in the second with a single up the middle, followed by hits from Madison Donnelly and Madison Karns to load the bases. Kenzie Boyd drew a walk to bring in the first run, and with one out, Bresnen blasted a grand slam to center field to give the Aggies a 5-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Tessa Fredericks doubled down the left field line and came around to score on a single by Tori Bockrath to extend the lead to 6-0.
Franklin & Marshall got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run, but DelVal answered in the fifth when Donnelly doubled and later scored on a Boyd single to make it 7-1.
Karns earned the win in the circle, tossing 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Morgan Mecham closed out the final two innings as the Aggies allowed just three hits and one walk combined.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 9 – Franklin & Marshall 1 (6 inn.)
After a scoreless start, Laila Murray doubled to open the second inning and, with two outs, Jillian Ulozas recorded her first hit of the season with an RBI double. Boyd and Bresnen followed with singles to plate another run and make it 2-0.
In the third, Fredericks worked out of a jam with two strikeouts and a groundout before the Aggies added another run in the bottom half, as Murray doubled to score Fredericks.
Bresnen struck again in the fourth, launching a solo home run to push the lead to 4-0. The Diplomats got one back in the inning, but stranded the bases loaded.
In the sixth, Boyd tripled to lead off the inning before Bresnen crushed her third home run of the day. The Aggies added insurance runs with aggressive baserunning, including a double steal and an error that allowed two more to score. Samantha Ratti capped the game with an RBI single to secure the 9-1 run-rule victory.
With the sweep, the Aggies improve to 19-5 overall and will return to action at home on Saturday, April 11 against Lebanon Valley.
