DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball dropped both games of its doubleheader against Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon after the Dutchmen jumped out to early leads in each contest.
Game 1 | Lebanon Valley 6 – Delaware Valley 1
Lebanon Valley struck early in the opener, plating three runs on four hits in the first inning against Madison Karns. The Dutchmen threatened again in the second, but Karns escaped the jam with a groundout and strikeout to strand two runners.
LVC continued to pressure in the third, but Karns again worked out of trouble with another strikeout to end the inning. The Dutchmen extended their lead to 6-0 in the fourth, using three hits and a wild pitch to add three more runs.
The Aggies put together a threat in the fifth as Amelia Funston and Kenzie Boyd both singled, but the inning ended with a runner tagged out at third.
DelVal broke through in the seventh when Funston and Karns reached on singles before Angelina Bresnen singled to left to score Funston. The rally ended there as Lebanon Valley secured the 6-1 win.
Karns took the loss, allowing six earned runs while striking out five. Morgan Mecham was strong in relief, tossing 3.0 perfect innings.
Game 2 | Lebanon Valley 6 – Delaware Valley 3
Lebanon Valley threatened in the second inning of game two, but Morgan Mecham stranded two runners with a strikeout to end the frame.
The Dutchmen broke through in the third as a pair of hits plated two runs to take a 2-0 lead. LVC added another in the fifth after back-to-back doubles made it 3-0.
DelVal got on the board in the bottom half when Jillian Ulozas beat out an infield single to score Haley Kley, who entered as a pinch runner.
In the sixth, Tessa Fredericks doubled and later scored on a single by Madison Donnelly to trim the deficit to 3-2.
Lebanon Valley answered in the seventh with three insurance runs, capitalizing on a pair of fielder's choices and a groundout to stretch the lead to 6-2.
The Aggies mounted one final push in the bottom of the seventh as Laila Murray and Ulozas reached base before Bresnen singled home Murray, but the comeback fell short in a 6-3 final.
Mecham was charged with the loss after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing five earned runs.
The losses drop Delaware Valley to 19-7 overall and 4-6 in MAC Freedom play. The Aggies return to action Tuesday, April 14, with a road matchup against Immaculata.
