CHESTER, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball earned a sweep of Widener University on Tuesday afternoon behind strong pitching performances and three doubles from Tori Bockrath.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 5 – Widener 0
Tessa Fredericks singled to center in the second inning, and with two outs, Tori Bockrath doubled to left center to drive her in and put the Aggies on the board. Laila Murray later reached on an error that moved Bockrath to third before she came home on the throw to make it 2-0.
The Pride put a runner on in the bottom half, but the Aggies caught Quinn stealing to end the inning.
With two outs in the third, Angelina Bresnen blasted a home run to left center to extend the lead to 3-0. The Aggies later loaded the bases with a single, hit by pitch, and walk before Bockrath struck again with another double to score Fredericks and Donnelly.
In the bottom of the third, Madison Karns struck out the side looking on her way to her sixth win of the season with seven strikeouts. The performance pushed her career total to 203 strikeouts over her three seasons.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 7 – Widener 2
Jillian Collins and Fredericks reached scoring position in the first inning, and Bockrath delivered again with a double to bring both home for a 2-0 lead.
Widener responded by loading the bases with one out and plating a run, but Flacin lined into a double play to Donnelly at first to end the threat.
The Aggies answered in the second by loading the bases before Fredericks singled to center to score Bresnen and Donnelly and extend the lead to 4-1.
In the third, Amelia Funston walked before Murray launched her first career home run to push the lead to 6-1.
The Pride added a run on a Ferraro double that scored Tong, but DelVal answered later in the inning. Collins stole second and Bockrath walked before Funston reached on a fielder's choice. Murray then singled to center to drive in Bockrath and make it 7-2.
Morgan Mecham struck out the side swinging in the fourth inning on her way to eight total strikeouts and her eighth win of the season.
The Aggies threatened again in the seventh with Donnelly and Kenzie Boyd on base but were unable to add to their lead.
With the sweep, Delaware Valley improves to 17-5 overall. The Aggies return home on Thursday, April 9, to host Franklin & Marshall at 3/5 p.m.
