Softball Held Scoreless in Road Losses to FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. – Delaware Valley softball came up short in a pair of pitchers' duels, falling to FDU-Florham in both games of Friday's doubleheader.

Game 1 | FDU-Florham 1 – Delaware Valley 0

The Devils had just one baserunner through the first two innings before DelVal threatened in the third. Jillian Collins drew a walk, moving Madison Karns to second with two outs, but Kenzie Boyd popped up to second to end the inning.

In the bottom half, a single by Reece put runners on the corners. Olear fouled out, and Madison Donnelly connected with Amelia Funston to tag out a runner at home. Lambright followed with an infield single to score Reece for the game's only run.

Both teams went down in order the rest of the way as pitching and defense took control. Karns allowed six hits and struck out four in the loss, falling to 5-3. FDU's Abinanti earned the win, striking out two while allowing just three hits.

Game 2 | FDU-Florham 2 – Delaware Valley 0

Reece reached in the bottom of the first and eventually came around to score an unearned run after a passed ball and sacrifice bunt to give the Devils an early lead.

The Aggies threatened in the second when Collins and Boyd both reached with no outs, but they were unable to bring either runner home.

In the sixth, after Collins was left stranded again, the Devils added an insurance run when Olear scored on a single down the left-field line. Morgan Mecham closed the inning by striking out Capparelli.

Mecham took her first loss of the season, pitching all six innings with three strikeouts and five hits allowed. FDU's Grifone recorded seven strikeouts in the shutout win.

With the losses, the Aggies fall to 15-5 overall and 4-4 in the MAC Freedom. Delaware Valley returns to action Thursday, April 7 with a road doubleheader at Widener beginning at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
