GLENSIDE, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball jumped out to early leads in both games and never looked back, sweeping Arcadia in a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 5 – Arcadia 1
Angelina Bresnen set the tone in game one with a leadoff double to left, followed by an infield single from Jillian Collins. After swiping third, Bresnen scored on a Tessa Fredericks RBI single to give the Aggies an early lead. Tori Bockrath added to it with a single up the middle to score Collins, making it 2-0 after one inning.
Madison Karns kept Arcadia in check early, retiring the side in order in the first with two strikeouts.
The Knights got on the board in the fifth when DeMaio lifted a sacrifice fly to score Mihalik, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Delaware Valley responded in the seventh with three insurance runs. Laila Murray, Kenzie Boyd, and Bresnen opened the inning with consecutive singles. After two force outs kept the bases loaded, Madison Donnelly delivered a bases-clearing double to left center to extend the lead to 5-1.
Karns closed the door in the seventh, tossing a complete game with four strikeouts to earn her ninth win of the season.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 6 – Arcadia 0
The Aggies struck early again in game two, as Bresnen reached third and scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Morgan Mecham followed with two strikeouts in a scoreless bottom half.
In the third, Jillian Ulozas singled through the left side and advanced to third on a throwing error. Bresnen brought her home with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Collins reached on a bunt single to lead off the sixth and later scored on a Bockrath single to left field.
Delaware Valley added three more runs in the seventh. With Murray aboard, Bresnen tripled to right center to drive her in. Collins then laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Bresnen, capping the scoring at 6-0.
Arcadia threatened with a runner on in the seventh, but Mecham induced a 5-3 double play to end the game. She went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out six for her ninth win of the season.
With the sweep, the Aggies improve to 23-9 overall and 6-6 in MAC Freedom play. Delaware Valley returns to action on Tuesday, April 21, with a road doubleheader at PSU-Abington beginning at 3 p.m.
