DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball dropped a pair of games to PSU-Brandywine on Thursday afternoon.
Game 1 | PSU-Brandywine 8 – Delaware Valley 2
PSU-Brandywine struck first in the opening inning, scoring on a Delaware Valley error as Rodgers reached base to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.
Madison Karns settled in during the second, striking out two and retiring the side in order.
After the Aggies stranded two runners in the bottom of the second, Brandywine added a run in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth. The Nittany Lions plated five runs on four hits with Gemma Taggart in the circle to extend the lead to 7-0.
Delaware Valley got on the board in the fourth when Tessa Fredericks doubled to center and later scored on an Amelia Funston single up the middle.
In the fifth, Kenzie Boyd led off with a single and moved to third on a hit by Angelina Bresnen. Boyd came around to score during a rundown play involving Bresnen, as both runners ultimately reached safely to make it 8-2.
The Aggies threatened in the seventh with Boyd and Bresnen reaching base with no outs, but were unable to add to the score.
Game 2 | PSU-Brandywine 2 – Delaware Valley 1
Delaware Valley left two runners stranded in the second before PSU-Brandywine took the lead in the third on a two-run home run to center by Mushinski.
Fredericks responded in the fourth with a solo home run to center field, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Nittany Lions threatened in the fifth with two runners on and no outs, but Fredericks worked out of the jam with a pop out, fly out, and line out to keep the deficit at one.
Boyd reached third with one out later in the inning, but the Aggies could not bring her home.
In the seventh, Jillian Ulozas singled infield before Boyd followed with a base hit to right. After Jillian Collins drew a one-out walk to load the bases, Madison Donnelly grounded into a double play at home and first to end the game.
With the losses, the Aggies fall to 21-9 overall and will travel to Arcadia on Friday, April 17, in Glenside.
